COIMBATORE DISTRICT PROFILE
• Coimbatore district is bounded by Kerala State in the West and South, Tiruppur District in the East, and parts of Nilgiris and Erode Districts in the North.
• The District lies between 10º 13'00” N to 11º 23' 30”N Latitude, 76º 39'00”E to 77º 30'00”E Longitude and has an areal extent of 7649 sq.km.
• There are 12 Blocks, 228 Village panchayats and 2238 Habitations in the District'
 Physiography and Drainage:
• The North western part and the Southern part of the Coimbatore is occupied by hill ranges of Western Ghats, namely Nilgiris hills in the North-West and Anamalai hills in the South.
• The most part of the district forms parts of Cauvery river basin where as the South western part of the district comes under Ponnani River basin.
• The major river courses which come under Cauvery basin are Bhavani, Noyyal and Amaravathi.
• The South western part of the district is drained by tributaries of Ponnani, namely Palar, Aliyar and Uppar originating from Anamalai hills.

 Sustainability:
With a view to enhance the Sustainability of the drinking water sources, recharge structures are being implemented by TWAD Board under various State and Central Government assistances.
